THE ORIGIN OF THE LENTEN DOVE
The African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church afforded my late wife, Mayfred, and me an opportunity to travel extensively throughout the world. Mayfred had a passion to make it possible to connect members of the universal church through sharing their theological thoughts and experiences as a part of their faith journey. It was very important to Mayfred that every soul be exposed to the care and goodness of God. Thus, The Lenten Dove-a devotional for Lent was born in 2012. The forty-seven devotionals that comprise the Lenten Dove are prayer efforts for readers to strengthen their faith journey during the Lenten season through the inspirational writings of sisters and brothers from across the world. It is my prayer that each writer and every reader will be blessed by the meditations that are presented, and that they will be inspired to “Stand Fast in the Faith.”
The 2020 edition of the Lenten Dove is written by a wide range of Bishops, preachers, teachers, business owners, and lay persons. The writers represent the universal church. They come from different geographical, denominational, and theological backgrounds. Yet, they share one common faith and they speak responsibly from their faith journey with the desire that the readers of the 2020 Lenten Dove will be blessed and encouraged from their personal experiences and theological understanding. It is their desire that each reader will be encouraged to “Stand Fast in the Faith.”
