I met Pastor Nall in 1999 a few days before the homegoing service for a friend who was a member of the Pastor’s church. During the service Pastor extended an invitation to become saved. I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior during the service. Over the past 23 years Pastor Nall has been a friend, supporter, and confidant. Never failing to be a blessing when I needed one.
We have all heard at one time or another someone say that they owe their life to another person. Well, I literally owe Pastor Nall mine. In 2000, my home building company was collapsing. We had accumulated a massive amount of debt and the bill collectors were calling my office every day. As someone who had not previously experienced this kind of financial strife, I became extremely depressed and had decided that life just wasn’t worth living anymore. One morning as I sat on the side of my bed at 5:30 am with a gun in my hand the phone rang. IT WAS PASTOR NALL. “ I just had you on my mind this morning”. Without knowing what I was going through at that moment, Pastor Nall prayed with me for quite a while that morning. I remember sobbing uncontrollably as Pastor prayed. Pastor called me every morning for the next week at the same time every morning to pray with me. It was not until sometime later that I told Pastor how close I was to taking my own life.
Thank you, Lord, for placing Pastor Nall in my life. What a tremendous blessing he has been to my family. I pray that you bless him in the same way that he has blessed us.

I endured an authentic and firsthand experience with traveling to China. I learned to fully appreciate the differences/similarities shared among groups of people. I have a newfound story to share with everyone about the people I met and the places I have been. Everyone I encounter back home views me in a special way. They have several questions about the culture in China. I have gained great storytelling skills. Children who I share my adventure with view me as a hero because I tell them, “I had a 14-hour flight, survived a typhoon, and climbed the Great Wall of China. I learned valuable lessons through speaking to Dr. Nall. I learned about the history and foundation of philanthropy for Reaching and Meeting Needs Ministries.

Before being awarded with this wonderful scholarship, I was terrified of traveling long distances, let alone across water. I never DREAMED of visiting China or meeting Asians and experiencing their country firsthand. With this scholarship, I gained an experience that I can honestly say no one from my hometown has ever experienced. Not only was the experience breathtaking and outstanding, but being gifted with my very first passport and Chinese Visa are astounding accomplishments alone.
Upon departing the United States, I honestly had doubts of being able to return safely. My fear of traveling over the ocean was overwhelming. But upon reaching Shanghai, I realized that I should have known that God had us all in his hands and he blessed us with this experience for a reason.

Some of my family members did not want me to go to China because of things that they feared. I knew that the trip to China was a once in a lifetime experience that I could not let slip through my fingers. I cannot imagine how my life would be if I did not take the opportunity to China. My eyes have opened to new experiences and cultures.

I didn't come from a family with a lot of money, but we always had what we needed and a few things that we wanted. With that being said, this trip to China was my first time traveling abroad and flying on an airplane. This trip helped me understand that the world is literally at my fingertips, and there is no reason for me to stay comfortable in one place
I have always been fearful or skeptic of traveling abroad due to the things I've seen on the news and in the media in general. Had I not gone on this trip, I wouldn't have been able to debunk the theories and stereotypes planted into my thought process. I am grateful of the opportunity given to me to travel abroad, because this would have remained a dream if I had to fund the trip by myself.

There will never be enough words to express how thankful I am to have been a part of this experience. I will forever cherish the memories from this trip, and I hope to return to China someday. As they say in China, Xièxiè! Thank you to each person who made this trip possible.

This trip completely took away all of my reservations and instilled a passion inside me to get out of the bubble I have tried to confine myself to and explore the world. It has also made me realize that I may have a calling to teach and minister to others outside of my country and comfort zone.
I can't say thank you enough to the people that made this happen. I will never forget the journey that literally opened a whole new world to me, and I will forever cherish the relationships that I built with my professors and peers.

Growing up, my father would often tell me and my older brother that “We are Webbs and a Webb does not quit!”
This instilled the mindset that no matter how hard work or life gets; we would put everything we had into doing our best. The trip to China was truly once in a lifetime. Before going to China I started to second guess my decision to apply. However, I am glad that I took the opportunity. Experience is the best teacher.

I was given so much unwanted advice from people who have hardly traveled out of their home state. So many people asked, “why would you even want to go there?” or “well you know they do over there?” I at one time even questioned why I was going on this trip. After going, I learned so much more while being in China than I could have while being in your typical American classroom. I was out of my comfort zone and have learned so much from that experience. I am so thankful for this opportunity and will forever be grateful for this amazing teaching experience.

After visiting China, I have a whole new outlook on the world. I feel that if one person can experience all types of culture and diversity the more, they can impact their surroundings daily. I feel that in my future schools I will be able to implement the things I learned while in China to make my school and classroom the best it can be. To everyone that made this trip possible I extent my deepest gratitude! I will forever be thankful for the adventure that I will cherish for a lifetime.

I never thought at 39 years old I would leave my family and travel across the world to China! This was a life changing experience that I am so thankful for. I am so grateful to all of the people in my life that made this dream a reality. I still can’t believe that I climbed the Great Wall of China! This experience has given me the opportunity to speak to several classes at my high school and encourage future college students to travel abroad.
